Arrival at Vemork this summer

We are very lucky to have many guests visiting us during the summer. But this can cause some traffic challenges on the narrow and winding road to the museum and the parking lot at Våer.

To avoid unfortunate situations, or a bad start/end to the museum visit, we regulate traffic during the heaviest period.

FROM JUNE 28TH TO AUGUST 3RD THERE WILL BE PARKING ATTENDENTS AT THE EXIT FROM THE MAIN ROAD AND ON THE SITE.

The parking attendents decide who is allowed in and out from 09.00 to 16.00 every day.

On this page you can read about arrival by camper van, tour agecy, car, on foot, by bicycle, and about our shuttle bus.

CAMPER VAN and VEMORK

If you are travelling with a camper van and are visiting Vemork from June 28th to August 3rd, you cannot park at the museum. During this period, we offer a free of charge parking on marked spots at our location in Rjukan and door to door bus service from Rjukan Næringspark to Vemork at 09:45 and 13:30 every day. Return at 13:15 and 16:15.

The camper van and caravans can be parked on marked places in Hydroparken (Parking area ) and the bus stop is located and can be found via this link (google map): bus stop at the old fire station

The offer is provided by Vy in Tinn and costs NOK 50 for adults and NOK 25 for children each way. The bus takes you all the way to the entrance door of Vemork power station.
For groups booked to the museum, the scheduled time on the city bus MAY differ slightly if unforeseen events occur!

Unfortunately, camper van-users with an HC certificate cannot take their camper vans up to the museum during this period. Please contact us in case of special considerations: for instance, motorized wheelchair or similar.

NB! A caravan is of course no exception. The rule applies even more strongly. The caravan must be unhooked from the car.
Campers who are going to watch bungee jumping or jumping before 16:00 in the afternoon are no exception.

TRAVEL AGENCIES TO VEMORK JUNE 28TH TO AUGUST 3RD

All large buses park in designated spaces on Veset-sletta. Shuttle buses pick up and drop off at Veset-sletta.

The area will have road signs to mark heavy traffic and possible queues during this period.

Buses that have not booked a shuttle bus to the museum can drop off/pick up their guests at the Våer Torg intersection.

CARS UP TO 5 METERS

You are welcome to park in the parking lot, but you cannot choose where and how to park your car yourself. Our traffic attendents will help you with access and parking at the designated space.

CYCLISTS TO VEMORK

All cyclists – including motorcyclists – are invited to take their vehicles up to the area below Tungtvannskjelleren. This provides a safer maneuvering area on Våer and in the square in front of the museum, and it saves parking space.

HIKERS TO VEMORK

A warm welcome, whether you arrive from the south, west, east or north. It is exciting to arrive at Vemork via Sluskedilten and we recommend the idyllic nature of Kraftledningsveien rather than the main route up from Rjukan. Remember to follow road signs, beware of traffic, take it easy when you have to use the main road, and wear high-visibility hiking clothing.

SHUTTLE BUS UP THE HILL FROM/TO THE PARKING LOT

In collaboration with Vy in Tinn, we offer our guests easier access up and down the 700 meter long slope to the museum.

The bus is available between 10.00 and 16.00 every day from June 28th – August 3rd. The bus costs NOK 50 for adults and NOK 25 for children each way.

The bus is not concerned with getting full before it drives. If there is a demand, the bus is in motion. It is parked by the suspension bridge when there are no customers.

The reception will call / summon a driver if there is a need for a return trip down after the visit.
